CHIEF BUZZARD ARLEN DEASON

"Let there be no strangers in the BUZZARD CLUB - Only friends that have yet to meet"

Hello Fellow Buzzards: Well the tournament is over and done and my congratulations go out to Metro for a job well done. Everything seemed to go pretty well and it looked like most people had a good time. I am looking forward to next year’s tournament that will be handled by Dallas and I am sure they will do a fantastic job.The schedule for the next 3 months of bowling is listed at the bottom of the OFFICERS page. That’s it for now, so on with bowling!!!

Minutes of Meeting: Arlen was not present so Dennis opened the meeting and presented the treasurer’s report which passed. Two applications were voted on and also passed. Dennis discussed tournaments coming up and also discussed with the members the tournament at Metro. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.

Attendance: We had 41 Buzzards at the gathering in August, five that didn’t bowl and three pacers. Our next scheduled gathering is on September 10th @ Dynamic Lanes 6121 Tarnef Houston (713) 772-1063. The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins at 2 PM.

Bowling Reminder: Full names are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure that the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign at the end of the three games. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for the “THREE – IN – A- ROW “roll-off in January.

Merchandise Announcement:
At this time, I have decided to stop selling the merchandise left over from the tournament, but if you are interested in any of the items, contact Gayle Miller.

Note from Jackie:
There have been too many Buzzards coming in right at 1:30pm to sign in for bowling. When the meeting ends before that time, all recaps are put out. Please try to come in by 1:15pm if possible. Also, by the time of our September meeting, most of the leagues should have begun. Remind your league Secretary to turn in the sanction cards on time (within 30 days of the first day of bowling). I will need to see them once you receive them and no later than the December meeting.

JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS

Joke of the Month:
A guy dies and goes to hell. The devil meets him at the gate and says, "All right, you have died and come to hell. You will spend eternity here, but you get to choose how to spend it. You may choose one of these three doorways. Once you choose a door, you may not change it. So let's get started." The devil opens Door One. The guy looks in and sees a couple of people standing on their heads on a Concrete floor. The guy says, "No way, let's move on." The devil opens Door Two. The guy sees a few more people standing on their heads on a Wood floor. The guy says, "No way, let's move on." The devil opens Door Three. The guy sees a bunch of people standing knee-deep in cow manure drinking coffee. The guy says, "Great, this is the one I will chose." The devil says, "OK, wait right here, I will get you some coffee." The guy settles in with his coffee thinking that this isn't so bad. What's the big deal? After about 10 minutes a voice comes over the loud speaker saying, "Coffee break's over. Back on your heads!"

WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!!
A sheriff's deputy in Victorville, Calif. pulled over a pickup truck driver after he made an illegal turn -- and called in the bomb squad when he saw a 500-lb. bomb in the back of the truck. Deputy James Momjian was pretty sure it was a 500-lb. bomb: "It's actually written right on there: '500 pound bomb'. It's stamped on there," he said. The bomb turned out to be a dummy used for practice, but other, live explosives were found in the truck. The 43-year-old driver was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of explosive devices. His name? David S. Bangs.

INTERESTING FACT:
A dripping hot water faucet wastes an average of 40 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. This is the equivalent of running a color television 8 hours a day for about 31 days.

ON THIS DATE:
September 10th 1608 - Explorer, adventurer, writer and cartogropher, John Smith, assumed the Presidency of the Jamestown settlement, In December 1607, Smith was captured and brought before Algonquin Chief Powhatan. Smith alleged, in a book written much later, that Pocahontas, the chief's young daughter, had saved his life by throwing herself between him and his would-be executioners.
