November 2003 VOLUME XXXXII ISSUE11
Hello Fellow Buzzards: Well, once again I don’t have a whole lot to talk about this month. Not a lot happening except for my operation that went smoothly. I should be back in the swing of things by the end of October or early November. I do hope everyone had a wonderful summer as I did and are looking forward to the holidays. They will be here before you know it. All that food and time off from work, hmm can’t wait. Arlen mentioned to me that he really would like for all our members to represent Houston proudly at Tyler and to have a good time. One thing on bowling, I included a note from Jackie concerning signing up members that are not present and then don’t show up. This can cause the afternoon to drag on, especially when you have some lanes with more people than necessary and for those that have to stay after bowling to gather up the results. I’m sure this will be touched on at the next meeting, so be ready. That’s it for now, so on with bowling!!!
Minutes of Meeting:
Arlen opened the meeting and Barbara presented the Treasurer’s report which passed. One new application was voted on and also passed. Arlen handed out an award to Leonard Ferguson, Sr. for placing first in singles at the tournament in San Antonio. Arlen also mentioned to the club that all the AMF houses that we bowl at have agreed to host us next year. He also mentioned that he will sign the contract with the host hotel for the Tournament in 2005 (which will be the Marriott at Greenspoint) and said the host houses are Diamond and Houston North. After some discussion from the members, he asked for any objections and there were none. The Nominating and Rules Committees were formed and Dennis passed out a few awards. Arlen also said the tournament at Tyler is still on for next year and that if something changed he would let the club know. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.
Attendance: We had 50 Buzzards at the gathering in October, 39 of which attended the meeting, 4 that did not bowl and 2 pacers. We have had good turn outs in the last few months and hopefully we can keep it up. Hope to see all of you on NOVEMBER 2nd @ DEL MAR LANES 3020 MANGUM (713-682-2506). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins AT 2 PM. Everyone must be signed up to bowl by 1:30. (In the event the meeting ends early we may start bowling a little early…so be signed up and ready). We are bowling 4 to a lane and if additional lanes are not available, Jackie will fill in additional bowlers. (REMEMBER TO PAY CASH ONLY FOR YOUR BOWLING AND BRACKETS, AS THIS IS HOW JACKIE AND DENNIS PAY OFF THE WINNERS.)
Trivia: What was the name of the first organization in the United States to regulate tenpin bowling?
HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Joke of the Month:
This woman's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months, yet she had stayed by his bedside every single day. One day, when he came to, he motioned for her to come nearer. As she sat by him, he whispered, eyes full of tears, "You know what? You have been with me through all the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me. When my business failed, you were there. When I got shot, you were by my side. When we lost the house, you stayed right here. When my health started failing, you were still by my side... You know what?" "What dear," she gently asked, smiling as her heart began to fill with warmth. "I think you're bad luck....."
