"Let there be no strangers in the BUZZARD CLUB - Only friends that have yet to meet"

Hello Fellow Buzzards:

Well, summer has come and gone and ole' man winter is upon us. I hope that everyone has a safe and happy thanksgiving with the turkey and dressing and all the fixings (I'm getting hungry just thinking about it). I'm going to try something new this month and I hope that everyone will help me with it. I want to start a "joke of the month" section. I thought it would be something different to make reading this thing a little more enjoyable and help put some smiles on those faces. If you have a clean and funny joke you would like to share with everyone, send it to me and I will put it in the letter and acknowledge you. Please keep them short. Space is limited. Also, sanction card time is getting close so be ready to show those to Jackie before January. More on this next month. That's it for now, so on with bowling!!!

Minutes of Meeting:

Arlen opened the meeting and Barbara started with the treasurer's report, which passed. Four new applications were voted on and accepted. The rules and nominating committees were formed. The individuals on each committee will be listed later in the newsletter. Arlen reminded the club once again about the tournament that we will host in 3 years. He suggested that there be one tournament director with separate committees to make sure that all areas are covered. This includes the dinner dance with the cost of drinks and food along with the type of table décor taken into consideration and also which house if any would be a good host facility or should we use 2. As for as the houses we will bowl at next year, Arlen and the area directors are still working on that and hopefully will have an update next month. Nothing else was brought up for discussion so the meeting was closed.

Attendance:

We had 46 Buzzards at the gathering this month 34 of which attended the meeting. Our attendance has been decreasing but hopefully it will start to pickup again after the holidays. Hope to see all of you (plus maybe a few more) this month on NOVEMBER 3 @ DEL MAR 3020 MANGUM (713-682-2506). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins AT 2 PM. Everyone must be signed up to bowl by 1:30. (In the event the meeting ends early we may start bowling a little early…so be signed up and ready). We are bowling 4 to a lane and if additional lanes are not available, Jackie will fill in additional bowlers. (REMEMBER TO PAY CASH ONLY FOR YOUR BOWLING AND BRACKETS, AS THIS IS HOW JACKIE AND DENNIS PAY OFF THE WINNERS.)

Trivia

What is the lowest three-game sanctioned series that includes a perfect 300 game?

Bowling Note: Anyone bowling a game that qualifies for an award or if you re-qualify, please let Jackie know and make a note on top of the re-cap sheet. When you re-qualify you can pay $2.00 for a Buzzard pin plus be entered to bowl in the Ellie Deason Three-In-A-Row Roll Off in December. Also beginning in September, if scores and splits are not totaled, those people will not qualify to place for winnings. When splits are not counted and put on the re-cap sheets, there is no way people can qualify for most splits. Also, many people are not verifying their score and initialing the sheet. Please take the time to do this before you leave.

Bowling Note II: On a 131 average, Debra Odom bowled a 221 game (90 pins over average), which was her highest game ever. Great bowling Debra!!!!!!

Joke of the Month: The new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners. At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. He took out a card, wrote "Revelation 3:20" on the back and stuck it in the door. When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message, "Genesis 3:10." Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter. Revelation 3:20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock." Genesis 3:10 reads, " I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid for I was naked."
