May 2000 NEWSLETTER VOLUME XXXVIIII ISSUE 5
Hello Buzzards:
We had 42 Buzzards, which 2 did not bowl and 1 pacer at the April event. This was the
smallest group we have had in eons!! We urge everyone to come and enjoy the fun and
fellowship created by the club.
We will bowl May 7th at AMF Windfern, 14441 N.W. Freeway (Highway 290), (713-466-8012).
Bowling begins at 2 P.M. Please sign up with Jackie by 1:30 P.M. and don't forget to get a
door prize ticket from Terrance. Remember our meeting starts at 1 P.M. (In the event our
meeting ends early, we may begin bowling before 2 P.M.) Please remember only four (4) bowlers
to a lane. If additional lanes are not permitted, Jackie will let you know so that five (5)
can bowl per lane. We voted several months ago to only have 4 per lane except in uncontrollable
conditions. This allows everyone to get finished at about the same time.
We approved two (2) new members at the April meeting. We welcome Pamela Grant and Tom Carlson.
Please come join us for a fun afternoon of bowling soon! Your spouse or friend may come and
bowl with us as a pacer for $8.00. Who knows...they might even qualify as well.

which is it??!!??
My apologies if I missed anyone - This is all I have on file.
Attendance awards or $5.00 each were won by Mollie Weeks & Bob King, Sr.
"FROM BOWLING PINS TO ROLLING PINS" was voted to be the title for our
new cookbook. Please remember that the recipe deadline is the May event.
I know that everyone cooks and has a favorite recipe, please send them to me. If we
need more time to collect them we can talk about it. I would, however, like to try and go to
print in June so that we can possibly have them for the August tournament in Conroe. I will be
calling on the committee soon for another meeting. Now is when the real work begins.
Our June event will have to be moved from Delmar Lanes due to a
conflict with the HBA Men's City Tournament. It was discussed that if we can get the right
price, we may bowl at Copperfield Lanes. I will keep you posted as to the final decision. UPDATE: AMF Houston North Lanes
TIME IS RUNNING OUT!! The deadline to get your games in for the Annual Tournament is nearing.
Our deadline is May, so if you are not sure how many games you have bowled, call Jackie...
Especially if you want to bowl the tournament in August. Confirmation of host hotel and the
Dinner Dance has not been received from Conroe yet but rumor has it that it will be at the
Woodlands Inn. The Dinner Dance will be $15.00 each. Please contact Arlen for more details.
Also, please make sure your entry is completely filled out, neatly and legible, and
all fees are attached, or they will be returned to you. If you have any
questions with the entries, please ask an officer for help. We have started a list of bowlers
that would like to bowl and we will be making up teams from that list. If you need a person to
finish up your entry, let an officer know.
NOTE FROM JACKIE: The tournament will be August 11, 12 & 13. This is the 2nd week-end instead
of the usual 1st week-end. I will need to have all entries no later that the June 4th event in
order to meet the official tournament deadline of June 15th. Please read rules 5 and 6 on the
back of the entry form. Make sure to abide by them and complete the entry as such. If you are
unable to attend the June event you may mail your entry and money to me, but I will still need
them by the deadline to verify all info. I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY ENTRIES: (A). AFTER
JUNE 4th AT 5:00 P.M., (B). AFTER JUNE 4th THAT HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO ANOTHER OFFICER WITHOUT THE
TOTAL ENTRY MONEY ATTACHED. Please make one check for the total entry fee and
one check for the total attending the Dinner/Dance. All checks must be payable to the Houston
Buzzard Club.
** Entries are not to be mailed to the Conroe Tournament office. They will not accept them.
All entries must be sent as a group and paid for with one check from our Chapter.

TOURNAMENT TIME IS NEAR...IT's TIME TO ORDER SHIRTS
Buzzard Club Polo Style Bowling shirts - Contact Captian Eddie Sales @ 281-599-7301,
Pager 713-909-3100. The price for each shirt is around $40.00.
Note: Paul Phillips introduced this company to us last month. He had a sample of the work done
and we were all impressed. Captian Eddie is a big sponsor for bowling events for the
youth and handicapped. Anything we can do to repay this man for his contributions to the
bowling community would be grateful since he is just getting started with this venture.
Arlen and Paul know him well.
