MAY 2006 VOLUME XXXXV ISSUE 5
Fellow Buzzards: I hope everyone had a good Easter. Mine was good except the only eggs I got were the ones I bought. Oh Well, maybe next year. I would like to remind you once again that our annual bowling tournament is coming up soon and we need to get teams together so now would be a good time to start planning. Speaking of the tournament, I will have more info later in the newsletter. Also, don't forget about the change in our bowling schedule later this year. We will bowl at West Houston in October instead of the original posted date. The schedule for the next 3 months of bowling is listed at the bottom of the OFFICERS page. That's it for now, so on with bowling!!! Minutes of Meeting: Arlen opened the meeting and presented the treasurer's report which passed. One new member application was voted on and also passed. Arlen informed the club that the applications for the tournament were mailed out on April 1st. He suggested that we get on the ball and get things done in a hurry. Our scheduled bowling at Del Mar will have to be rescheduled due to a tournament being held there the same weekend of our gathering. The date will be passed on to the club next month. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.
Attendance: We had 52 Buzzards at the gathering in April, two that didn't bowl and 1 pacer. Our next scheduled gathering is on MAY 7th @ AMF WILLOW LANES 19102 HWY 249 WEST (281-955-5900). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins at 2 PM. Bowling Reminder: Full names are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure that the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign at the end of the three games. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for the "THREE - IN - A - ROW" roll-off in January.
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY
MEMORIAL DAY

DID YOU KNOW:
Early mattresses were filled with straw and held up with a rope stretched across the bed frame. If the rope was tight, sleep was comfortable. Hence the phrase, "sleep tight."

Tournament Update: As mentioned earlier in the newsletter, the applications for our Annual Tournament in Mesquite have been mailed out and should arrive in time for our next gathering in May. The problem we have is that the applications need to be completed and turned in to Jackie by the first weekend in June. That only gives us one month to get teams and partners together. So please everyone be ready to complete the applications at the May gathering or shortly thereafter.
Bowling Note: During the last gathering, Bob Van bowled a 277 which was 111 pins over his average. Great bowling Bob!!!!!

JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS
Joke of the Month While sports fishing off the Florida coast, a tourist capsized his boat. He could swim, but his fear of alligators kept him clinging to the overturned craft. Spotting an old beachcomber standing on the shore, the tourist shouted, "Are there any gators around here?"
"Naw," the man hollered back, "they ain't been around for years!"
Feeling safe, the tourist started swimming leisurely toward the shore. About halfway there he asked the guy, "How'd you get rid of the gators?"
"We didn't do nothin'," the beachcomber said.
"Really?" said the tourist.
The beachcomber added, "The sharks got 'em."
WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!! Kimberly Du, 36, of Des Moines, Iowa, had racked up several traffic tickets. To get out of the fines, police now allege, Du faked her death, sending a falsified death certificate to the judge, who canceled an arrest warrant. But like most bad drivers, she kept getting tickets. A month after her supposed death, police stopped her for speeding and driving with a suspended license, and court investigators noticed the ruse. Du now faces two years in prison for forgery.
BAD PREDICTIONS: "Man of the future will be eager to return to his home at the end of the day. Perhaps he will commute to his job in his own gyrocopter. There are no traffic jams nor crowded subways [in 2000]. No smokestacks to pollute the air. The factories of tomorrow are located in landscaped industrial parks, producing more of everything for less in material, time and money."

ON THIS DATE: May 7th 1915 - On its return trip from New York to Liverpool, England, the British ocean liner, "Lusitania", was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland. The "Lusitania" was carrying a cargo of ammunition from the U.S. to Great Britain. This was Germany’s reason for the attack even though the ship was carrying over 2,000 civilian men, women and children. 1,198 lives were lost.
