JUNE 2006 VOLUME XXXXV ISSUE 6
Fellow Buzzards: As everyone should know by now, our annual bowling tournament is coming up in August and we need to get on the ball and get the applications finished and turned in ASAP. I hate to keep harping on this, but having done this last year, I know what the effects are if applications are done late and I don't want anyone to be upset. So let's get going and be sure we meet the deadline for submitting the applications. Everyone involved will be glad we did. The schedule for the next 3 months of bowling is listed at the bottom of the OFFICERS page. That's it for now, so on with bowling!!! Minutes of Meeting: Arlen opened the meeting and presented the treasurer's report which passed. One new member application was voted on and also passed. Arlen informed the club that the applications for the tournament have arrived and said those needed to be completed and handed in to Jackie by the June meeting or before if possible. He went over the applications and dinner dance information and told everyone that himself, Dennis or Ken would be available to assist in turning them in. He also mentioned that reservations for the hotel need to be done before June 15th. Dennis gave Bob Van an award for 100 pins over and a 600 series for the 277 he bowled last month. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.
Attendance: We had 50 Buzzards at the gathering in May, two that didn't bowl and 3 pacers. Our next scheduled gathering is on JUNE 4th @ ARMADILLA LANES II 10055 FUQUA (713-944-7100). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins at 2 PM. Bowling Reminder: Full names are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure that the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign at the end of the three games. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $2.00 and be entered for the "THREE-IN-A-ROW" roll-off in January.

TEAM CAPTAINS: The June 4th meeting will be the last day to turn in the application for the tournament at Metro (Dallas area) to be held on August 4, 5 & 6, 2006. Be sure and have either cash or TWO checks payable to the Houston Chapter Buzzard Club. One is for the tournament and the other for the dinner dance. For those bringing a guest to the dinner dance, at the bottom of the application where you mark the dinner choice, put the name of the guest. They will have name tags and would like their names listed so one could be made for them.
Anyone wishing to mail me the applications, (my address is on the newsletter) please do so that I will receive them by May 25th. Or, you may leave them at Delmar Lanes and ask them to put it in my league folder. Have the application and money sealed in an envelope. Dennis or Ken will also take them early the nights they bowl at Del Mar Lanes. I’m in the process of moving and the earliest I can get them the better. Your co-operation will be very much appreciated.
Bowling Note: During the last gathering, Bob Van bowled a 277 which was 111 pins over his average. Great bowling Bob!!!!!

JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS
Joke of the Month Two little boys go into the grocery store. One is nine-years-old and the other one is four-years-old. The nine-year-old grabs a box of tampons from the shelf and carries it to the register for check-out. The cashier asks "Oh, these must be for your mom, huh?" The nine-year-old replies "Nope, not for my mom." Without thinking, the cashier responded "Well, they must be for your sister then?" The nine-year-old quipped, "Nope, not for my sister either." The cashier had now become curious "Oh. Not for your mom and not for your sister? Who are they for?" The nine-year-old says "They're for my four-year-old little brother." The cashier is surprised "Your four-year-old little brother?" The nine-year-old explains: "Well yeah, they say on TV if you wear one of these, you can swim or ride a bike and my little brother can't do either of them!"
WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!! In 1976 a twenty-two-year-old Irishman, Bob Finnegan, was crossing the busy Falls Road in Belfast, when he was struck by a taxi and flung over its roof. The taxi drove away and, as Finnegan lay stunned in the road, another car ran into him, rolling him into the gutter. It too drove on. As a knot of gawkers gathered to examine the magnetic Irishman, a delivery van plowed through the crowd, leaving in its wake three injured bystanders and an even more battered Bob Finnegan. When a fourth vehicle came along, the crowd wisely scattered and only one person was hit - Bob Finnegan. In the space of two minutes Finnegan suffered a fractured skull, broken pelvis, broken leg, and other assorted injuries. Hospital officials said he would recover.
BAD PREDICTIONS: In 1902 Life Magazine printed a cartoon with the caption "Sightseeing in 1920." It showed a group of tourists floating in a balloon while a guide pointed downwards saying, "That depression down there is where New York City stood. But with all its skyscrapers and underground tunnels it suddenly sunk one day and they haven't been able to find it since."ON THIS DATE: June 4th 1896 - Henry Ford took a test run around the streets of Detroit, Michigan, in his Ford automobile.
