JUNE 2002 VOLUME XXXXI ISSUE 6
|
Hello Fellow Buzzards: Well, after taking a break for a month, it was nice seeing everyone again. It looked as if everyone was having a great time by all the smiling faces. I would like to thank everyone that is still giving me compliments on this newsletter. I do appreciate the feedback and I do enjoy doing this. It looks like ya’ll may be stuck with me for a while. I have a couple of sad announcements to make. Mary Beth Benjamin, past secretary of the Houston Women’s Bowling Association passed away on May 3rd and Ann Todaro, a lifetime member in our “family”, passed away on May 6th after a long illness. Our prayers go out to both families. Now on with the bowling!!!!
Arlen opened the meeting informing the club that Chris Smith would replace Alice Ward as the Northwest Area Director. It was brought up (with yours truly adding some information) that we could get the newsletter printed by Stephens Office Supply at no charge, which in turn would save the club around $30 per month. A vote was taken and passed. Three new applications were voted on and they also passed. Arlen also mentioned that when new members are signed up, they should be made aware of the dues still owed until the end of the year. We were informed that Cleo Fine broke her arm and we all wished her the best in her recovery. It was brought up once more about the newsletter not being received by some members. Arlen stressed the
|
fact that if a member does not pay their dues, they do not get a newsletter until they are paid. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! To close the meeting, it was mentioned that members don’t forget that June 2nd is the deadline for the tournament applications.
We had 54 buzzards and 2 pacers that bowled plus 5 buzzard that did not bowl in May. Hope to see all of you this month on JUNE 2 @ DEL MAR LANES 3020 MANGUM (713-682-2506). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins AT 2 PM. Everyone must be signed up to bowl by 1:30. (In the event the meeting ends early we may start bowling a little early…so be signed up and ready). We are bowling 4 to a lane and if additional lanes are not available, Jackie will fill in additional bowlers. REMEMBER TO PAY CASH ONLY FOR YOUR BOWLING AND BRACKETS, AS THIS IS HOW JACKIE AND DENNIS PAY OFF THE WINNERS.) The Houston Chapter of the Buzzard Club of America send their condolences, thoughts and prayers to the families of Mary Beth Benjamin, past Secretary of the Houston Women’s Bowling Association and Ann Todaro on their passing in May.

Trivia Answer: She was approximately eight months pregnant at the time. (Talk about bowling with a handicap!!!!!!!) Bowling Note: Anyone bowling a game that qualifies for an award or if you re-qualify, please let Jackie know and make a note on top of the re-cap sheet. When you re-qualify you can pay $2.00 for a Buzzard pin plus be entered to bowl in the Ellie Deason Three-In-A-Row Roll Off in December.
Buzzard Club Website -- WWW.HOUSTONBUZZARDCLUB.COM. Tournament News: The annual national tournament will be held in Irving the weekend of Aug. 2-4. Entry fee is $15 per event ($2 extra for all events which is optional) and $20 for the dinner dance. As of the May meeting, only five tournament applications have been turned in. Time is running close to the deadline of June 2nd and all applications and money plus money for the dinner/dance will be due on that date. Those attending the dinner/dance, to the far left of the app., beside the names for doubles, either put a B for beef or a C for chicken. That is required so Jackie can let Irving know how many of each are desired. Remember: one check for the tournament in full and a second check for the dinner/dance. Both checks are to be made payable to the HOUSTON CHAPTER BUZZARD CLUB. If you will not be able to attend the June meeting or can’t have someone bring the application in for you, you must mail it to Jackie soon enough so that she receives it no later than June 4, 2002. She hopes to have them completed and in the mail to Irving no later than Saturday the 8th of June. Her deadline to have them in Irving is June 15th. No late entries will be accepted nor should members send them! Be careful and follow the application instructions or it will be returned to you.
