FOUNDED OCT 1961- ORGANIZED MAY 1963 FOUNDER - THOMAS E. WALTERS, JR
CHIEF BUZZARD ARLEN DEASON

"Let there be no strangers in the BUZZARD CLUB - Only friends that have yet to meet"

Hello Fellow Buzzards: There is not a whole lot going on right now but as everyone should know by now, our annual bowling tournament is coming up in August and hopefully everyone that is going has got their applications finished and turned in. I am looking forward to this year’s tournament as I do every year and can’t wait to see what Dallas has in store. I decided to drop the page concerning the tournament from the newsletters since everyone should have gotten all the info by now, but I did leave the page concerning upcomming tournaments if anyone is concerned. If you still need information concerning our tournament see Dennis. That’s really it for this month, so on with bowling!!!

Minutes of Meeting: Arlen opened the meeting and presented the treasurer’s report which passed. One new member application was voted on and passed. Arlen informed the club that if anyone is having trouble making reservations at the hotel to contact him. The representive for new shirts was not able to be at the meeting in June but will be at the meeting in July, at which time the club can address any issues that may arise. Dennis handed out some awards. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.

Attendance: We had 56 Buzzards at the gathering in June, four that did not bowl and two pacers. Our next scheduled gathering is on July 1st @ Max Bowl North 2390 Wilson Rd. Humble (281) 540-2800. The meeting begins at 1 PM and bowling begins at 2 PM.

Bowling Reminder: Full names are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure that the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign at the end of the three games. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for the “THREE – IN – A- ROW “roll-off in January.

JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS

Joke of the Month:
A guy is driving around the back woods of Tennessee and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: "Talking Dog For Sale." He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there. "You talk?" he asks. "Yep," the Lab replies. After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says "So, what's your story?" The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders; because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running." "But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in." "I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired." The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog. "Ten dollars," the guy says. "Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?"

"Because he's a liar. He never did any of that stuff."

WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!!
Harrisonburg (Va.) High School had a display of banned or "challenged" books to provoke thought about the American Library Association's annual Banned Books Week. "Had" is the key word here: Harrisonburg Schools Superintendent Donald Ford ordered the display removed, since it might encourage students to read them. Books in the display included Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451", "The Diary of Ann Frank" -- and the Bible.

WEIRD BUT TRUE:
A young woman was approaching her wedding day. She decided that she'd look better in her wedding dress if she had a little colour, so a week before the wedding she went to a tanning salon. The salon staff, however, told her that for her own safety, she could only tan for thirty minutes a day. After she'd tanned for her thirty minutes, she decided it wasn't enough, so she went to another tanning salon the same day to tan. They told her the same thing. She still wasn't tan enough after that thirty minutes, so she went to a third tanning salon, and a fourth. She did this for the next four days. Even though she was getting a little bit red, she kept thinking how good she'd look in her wedding dress. The day before her wedding, she was found dead. Her internal organs had all burnt up from the tanning beds.

MORONS
Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a robbery suspect who just couldn't control himself during a line-up. When detectives asked each man in the lineup to repeat the words, "Give me all your money or I'll shoot," the man shouted, "That's not what I said!"

ON THIS DATE:
On July 1, 1863 - The Battle of Gettysburg (Pennsylvania), one of the Civil War's most crucial combats, began. In the battle Confederate troops led by Gen. Robert E. Lee fought against Union troops led by Gen. George Meade. The battle ended three days later when Confederate troops were forced to retreat back to Virginia.

PREDICTION FROM THE PAST:
"Brain work will cause [the 'new woman'] to become bald, while increasing masculinity and contempt for beauty will induce the growth of hair on the face. In the future, therefore, woman will be bald and will wear long mustaches and patriarchal beards."
- Berlin University professor Hans Friedenthal, 1914.
