JANUARY 2000 NEWSLETTER VOLUME XXXVIIII ISSUE 1
With all the hustle and bustle of the season, we had the smallest turnout on a good while, with 54 Buzzards, which 4 did not bowl and 4 pacers at the December event. We urge everyone to come and enjoy the fun and fellowship created by the club.
We will bowl January 9 at Federal Bowl, 1418 Federal Road (713-453-0492). Bowling begins at 2 P.M. Please sign up with Jackie by 1:30 P.M. and don't forget to get a door prize ticket from Terrance. Remember our meeting starts at 1 P.M. (In the event our meeting ends early, we may begin bowling before 2 P.M.) Please remember only four (4) bowlers to a lane. If additional lanes are not permitted, Jackie will let you know so that five (5) can bowl per lane. We voted several months ago to only have 4 per lane except in uncontrollable conditions. This allows everyone to get finished at about the same time.
There were 14 participants in the 3-in-a-row roll-off held in December. Ellie will announce the winner(s) at the January meeting.
Denise Blonstein (Jan. 11th) Marie Iacono (Jan. 14th) Blyth Steele (Jan. 16th) Molly Weeks (Jan. 20th) Christine Smith (Jan. 29thRemember you bowl for $5.00 in your birthday month!
Happy Anniversary to:
Bette Kelley (Jan. 1st) Nick & Sharon Carter (Jan. 3rd)
Attendance awards or $5.00 each were won by Beth George & Dennis Davis.
We approved three (3) new members at the December meeting. We welcome Bobbie Price, Anthony Berg, and Tim Wright. Please come join us for a fun afternoon of bowling soon! Your spouse or friend may come and bowl with us as a pacer for $8.00. Who knows...they might even qualify as well.
Please remember to give your sanction numbers to Jackie as soon as you get it. She needs to see the new cards by January 2000 to make sure that everyone has a current card.
The officers for 2000 remain the same. An election was held in December and each officer was un-opposed. The officers information is on page 3 of the newsletter, along with the schedule of events for the year 2000.
The cookbook idea as a fund raiser seems to be agreeable with the majority of the members. We will discuss it at greater length in January or February. We would like to have some special sections, such as a Kids Korner, Back to Basics, and it was suggested one for Diabetics. Please give it some thought and anything you have to contribute will be greatly appreciated. We need to decide when we want to print it, what style of book and how much initial money to spend. Beth will have samples of books and pricing at that time. However, please continue to submit recipes. We want this to be a book we can all be proud of and one that will sell with ease.
Jackie has asked that all re-caps be turned in to her. Some are leaving them on the lanes or tables and she is afraid the cleaning crews might throw them away before she realizes she is missing some. She will not be responsible for them if they are not turned in to her or they are missing.
