FOUNDED OCT 1961- ORGANIZED MAY 1963 FOUNDER - THOMAS E. WALTERS, JR
CHIEF BUZZARD ARLEN DEASON

"Let there be no strangers in the BUZZARD CLUB - Only friends that have yet to meet"

Hello Fellow Buzzards: I hope everyone has a safe and prosperous new year. I have included the new bowling schedule for next year in this month's newsletter. Please be aware these dates have not been totally confirmed and if anything changes I will include that in the newslettter next month. Don't forget to show Jackie your sanction cards again this month if you haven't already done so. Also, dues are to be paid starting this month. Don't forget, the three-in-a-row roll off will be held at our January gathering. That's really it for this month, so on with bowling!!!

Minutes of Meeting: I wasn’t present at last month’s gathering so I don’t know what was discussed. I assume that the treasurer’s report passed and I have one new application so that must have passed also. I do have the results of the Nominating Committee and Rules Committee later in the newsletter.

Attendance: We had 31 Buzzards at the gathering in December, three that didn't bowl and one pacer. Our next scheduled gathering is on January 7th @ Del Mar Lanes 3020 Mangum Houston (713) 682-2506. The meeting begins at 1:00 PM and bowling begins at 2:00 PM.

Bowling Reminder: Full names are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure that the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign at the end of the three games. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $2.00 and be entered for the "THREE – IN – A- ROW" roll-off in January. Also, January is the last month for all members, including new members, to show Jackie your sanction card for 2006-2007.

Three In a Row Roll-Off: The following people will be eligible to compete at the January gathering in the roll-off: Cleo Fine, Glory Brown, Alice Ward, Richard Hamaker, Vickie Carlson & Mary Shoemaker. The splits will also go toward the usual number for the month.

Sad Note: Our Condolenses go out to Cleo Fine whose son passed away on Dec. 14th. Please remember her in your thoughts and prayers.

Note from Jackie:
Remember, its time to bring your 2006 – 2007 Sanction card to show me for the new season. It is a requirement in our rules & USBC rules as well. You are not eligible to win any monies if you do not have a card for 2006 – 2007. Everyone should have them by now. If not, call the Greater Houston USBC Association at 713 – 874 – 1277 to verify that it was mailed. If your league secretary did not get it in within 30 days after the league began, that may be the reason why you have not received it. The sooner that you show the card to me, the better for the both of us. Thanks for your co-operation.

Officers:
All officers were re-elected to their current positions.

New Rule Change:
Pacer fees will be the same as the member fees. As the member fees increase, so will the pacer fees. For 2007 the fees will be: Members -$10, Pacers - $10, Birthdays - $5. JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS

Joke of the Month:
A farmer and his brand new bride were riding home from the chapel in a wagon pulled by a team of horses, when the older horse stumbled. The farmer said, "That's once." A little further along, the poor old horse stumbled again. The farmer said, "That's twice." After a little while the poor old horse stumbled again. The farmer didn't say anything, but reached under the seat, pulled out a shotgun and shot the horse. His brand new bride yelled, telling him, "That was an awful thing to do.” The farmer said, "That's once."

WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!!
Off-duty Edison, N.J., police officer Ioannis Mpletsakis, 26, was driving home after swimming at a friend's house. To avoid getting the seat of his BMW wet, he took off his swim shorts. Then he got into an accident, and his shorts ended up wedged under his crumpled dash board. With a crowd gathering, Mpletsakis feared if he got out of his car he could be charged with public lewdness, so he drove off instead. A fellow officer found him hiding in some bushes and took him home to get dressed. Municipal Court Judge John Leonard, who called it "the most singular and most bizarre hit-and-run case since Henry Ford built his first car," scolded Mpletsakis for leaving the accident, but dismissed hit-and-run charges because he returned after he got his clothes on. He was convicted, however, of hindering his apprehension and faces being fired from his police job.

WEIRD BUT TRUE:
Depressed since he could not find a job, 42-year-old Romolo Ribolla sat in his kitchen near Pisa, Italy, with a gun in his hand threatening to kill himself in 1981. His wife pleaded for him not to do it, and after about an hour he burst into tears and threw the gun to the floor. It went off and killed his wife.

INTERESTING FACT:
The underwater mating song of the toadfish is so loud that sometimes it can be heard by humans on the shore.

ON THIS DATE:
On January 7, 1610 - Galileo discovered the 4 major moons of Jupiter -- Io, Europa, Gannymede and Callisto.

PREDICTION FROM THE PAST:
"A road sign of the future is likely to read "No wheeled vehicles on this highway.' Cars without wheels will float on air, bringing about the passing of the wheel." - scientist and author Arthur C. Clarke's 1975 vision of transportation in 2000.
