JANUARY 2006 VOLUME XXXXV ISSUE 1
Hello Fellow Buzzards: Well, as you can see I have changed the format of the newsletter once again. I hope to have a little bit more room to put in a few things I hope will brighten up everyone’s day. We’ll see what happens. I hope everyone has a safe and prosperous new year. Also, I have included the new bowling schedule for the year in this month’s newsletter. Please keep it close for easy reference. This will be the only time the full schedule will be shown, although I will list the next three months of gatherings in each newsletter. Don’t forget to show Jackie your sanction cards again this month if you haven’t already done so. Also, dues are to be paid starting this month. Don’t forget, the three-in-a-row roll off will be held at our January gathering. That’s really it for this month, so on with bowling!!! Minutes of Meeting: Arlen opened the meeting and presented the treasurer’s report which passed. Five new member applications were voted on and also passed. Arlen asked for a clarification on when the bowling year actually ends, whether it was at the December gathering or Dec 31st and the club decided it was actually on Dec. 31st. It was brought up to clarify our decision in January on how we are going to do Christmas bowling. Is the club going to bowl one weekend only with both party and regular bowling or bowl 2 weeks in December with one regular bowling and one Christmas party with bowling? Also we need to clarify if we will return any left over money to the tournament fund. The Nominating Committee suggested keeping the current officers, with the exception of 2nd Vice President. A vote was taken from the attending members and Donna Castellese was elected over Robert Weeks with all other officers being re-instated. The Rules Committee brought up the 9 game rule once again and suggested that it be left in place but any exceptions to the rule would be voted on by the members attending the meeting in June before the deadline. This will be voted on in January. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.
Attendance: We had 66 Buzzards at the gathering in December, one that didn’t bowl and 3 pacers. Our next scheduled gathering is on JANUARY 9th @ AMF WINDFERN LANES 14441 N. W. FRWY (HWY 290) (713-466-8012). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins at 2 PM.
Bowling Reminder: Full names are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure that the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign at the end of the three games. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for the “THREE – IN – A- ROW “roll-off in January. Also, January is the last month for all members, including new members, to show Jackie your sanction card for 2005-2006.
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I am trying to make this thing a little more interesting to read and hope that everyone truly enjoys it. There probably will be more changes throughout the year until I get it right. Let me know what you think. Also I was wondering if those members that receive their newsletters by mail would consider getting it by e-mail. You would receive it sooner; nobody sees your e-mail address and it would save the club a little money and also time on my part. Think about it and let me know if you decide to change. Another thing, don’t forget about the merchandise from the tournament. I still have a lot of stuff left over.

FUNNY PAGES AND INTERESTING FACTS
Joke of the Month: In the back woods of Kentucky, the redneck's wife went into labor in the middle of the night, and the doctor was called out to assist in the delivery. Since there was no electricity, the doctor handed the father-to be a lantern and said, "Here, you hold this high so I can see what I'm doing." Soon, a baby boy was brought into the world. "Whoa there," said the doctor. "Don't be in a rush to put the lantern down...I think there's yet another one to come." Sure enough, within minutes he had delivered a baby girl. "No, no, don't be in a great hurry to be putting down that lantern. . . It seems there's yet another one in there!" cried the doctor. The Redneck scratched his head in bewilderment, and asked the doctor, "Do you think it's the light that's attractin' 'em?"
WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!! 1993 -- David Bridges, 24, was arrested in Grapevine, Texas, in January and charged with stealing a television set from a home. That getaway had been successful, but he was caught and arrested after he went back to the home because he had neglected to take the remote control.
ON THIS DATE: On January 8, 1815 the Americans defeated the British in the Battle of New Orleans.
DID YOU KNOW??? A bowling pin needs to tilt only 7.5 degrees to fall. (So that’s why I get a lot of 9 counts)
WEIRD BUT TRUE Ken Charles Barger, 47, accidentally shot himself to death in Newton, North Carolina when, awakening to the sound of a ringing telephone beside his bed, he reached for the phone but grabbed instead a Smith & Wesson .38 Special, which discharged when he drew it to his ear
