JANUARY 2004 VOLUME XXXXIII ISSUE 1
Hello Fellow Buzzards: Well, another year has come and gone. What I want to know is where did it go? I guess it’s true what they say about age, the older you get the faster it goes. Anyway, I hope everyone has a safe and prosperous new year. I have included the new bowling schedule in this month’s newsletter. Please make note of it and keep it close for easy reference. Also, don’t forget to show Jackie your sanction cards again this month if you haven’t already done so. Barbara wanted me to mention for members not to forget to pick up the door prize ticket when you sign up. Don’t forget, the three-in-a-row rolloff will be held at our January gathering. The qualifiers are listed later in the newsletter. That’s it for now, so on with bowling!!!
Minutes of Meeting:
Arlen opened the meeting and Barbara presented the Treasurer’s report which passed. The Rules Committee presented their proposal concerning the 9 games bowled format for entry into the Tournament. After some discussion, a vote was taken for either keeping the rule intact or abolishing it all together. The 9 games bowled format passed and will remain as it is stated in the bi-laws. The time frame to bowl the 9 games was voted on and changed to run from June to June instead of from August to August. Concerning the Nominating Committee, Paul Phillips submitted a letter of resignation and at the same time nominated Ken Maidlow to replace him. A vote was taken on the 2nd VP position between Ken and Jesse Aldridge with Ken winning the position. Also, Randy Stahl was nominated for the Sargent-At-Arms position to replace John Rodgers. After voting, John was re-elected. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.
Attendance: We had 63 Buzzards at the gathering in December, 55 of which attended the meeting, 1 that did not bowl and 2 pacers. We have had good turn outs in the last few months and hopefully we can keep it up. Hope to see all of you on JANUARY 4th @ AMF WINDFERN LANES 14441 N. W. FRWY. (HWY 290) (713-466-8012). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins AT 2 PM. Everyone must be signed up to bowl by 1:30. We are bowling 4 to a lane and if additional lanes are not available, Jackie will fill in additional bowlers. (REMEMBER TO PAY CASH ONLY FOR YOUR BOWLING AND BRACKETS, AS THIS IS HOW JACKIE AND DENNIS PAY OFF THE WINNERS.)
Trivia: In what year was the National Bowling Association formed?
HAVE A SAFE AND
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Beginning in January 2004 if you have not done so, you will have to bowl as a pacer and will not qualify to win anything for high games or for most splits. In order to sanction our club, each member that bowls must have the 2003-2004 sanction card. Our sanction renewal begins in January 2004 for the club. Dues for 2004 are also due between now and February.
Bowling Note: I was handed a suggestion after the meeting last month to have our Christmas Party held on the 1st Sunday of December with our regular gathering. If these games are normal bowling, they would be sanctioned and count towards the 9 games needed to bowl for the Tournament but if we wanted to have the no taps, 3-6-9, crazy 8 type of format, then they would not be sanctioned and not count toward the Tournament. This needs to be voted on so be ready to voice your opinion in January. 200 Club Note: There were 65 members (16 women & 49 men) that bowled 200 games this past year. Chris Smith bowled seventeen 200 games but Arlen bowled the highest at 278. Carolyn Lake led the women with seven 200 games bowled and also had the highest game of 256.
