JANUARY 2003 VOLUME XXXXII ISSUE 1
Hello Fellow Buzzards: Well, another year has come and gone. What I want to know is where did it go? I guess it’s true what they say about age, the older you get the faster it goes. Anyway, I hope everyone has a safe and prosperous new year. I have included the new bowling schedule in this month’s newsletter. Please make note of it and keep it close for easy reference. Also, don’t forget to show Jackie your sanction cards again this month if you haven’t already done so. Also, if I leave out a birthday or anniversary or if the dates are wrong, let me know so I can get that changed. That’s it for now, so on with bowling!!!
Minutes of Meeting:
Arlen opened the meeting with the Treasurers’ report, which was voted on and passed. He suggested that the money not used for the Christmas party go into the tournament fund. All sanction cards are due in January and there will be no exceptions. The club voted on having the Ellie Deason Memorial roll-off take place in January instead of December so those members that qualify in December can participate. All officers and area directors were voted on and retained. Arlen mentioned that the San Antonio chapter has asked that their tournament be moved back one week so as to have time to get the proper accommodations at the most reasonable price. This was ok’d by us. Dennis requested that the rule pertaining to the club okaying expenses be put back in the bi-laws, which was approved in the meeting. Lastly, Arlen mentioned that the toys donated at the Christmas party would go to the Home of Battered Women located in Humble. Nothing else was brought up for discussion so the meeting was closed.
Attendance: We had 38 Buzzards at the gathering this month 35 of which attended the meeting. Our attendance has been decreasing but hopefully it will start to pickup again after the holidays. Hope to see all of you (plus maybe a few more) this month on JANUARY 5 (location to follow). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins AT 2 PM. Everyone must be signed up to bowl by 1:30. (In the event the meeting ends early we may start bowling a little early…so be signed up and ready). We are bowling 4 to a lane and if additional lanes are not available, Jackie will fill in additional bowlers. (REMEMBER TO PAY CASH ONLY FOR YOUR BOWLING AND BRACKETS, AS THIS IS HOW JACKIE AND DENNIS PAY OFF THE WINNERS.)
Trivia: Who bowled three 300 games for the first perfect 900 series recorded in 87 years?
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Bowling Note: There were 62 members (16 women & 46 men) that bowled 200 games this past year. Arlen Deason, Martin Smith & Walter Grant tied with eleven 200 games with Walter bowling the highest at 278. Vicki Carlson led the women with 3 games bowled and also had the highest game at 267.
Nominating & Rules Committe: The rules committee proposes to add a 3rd paragraph/Article III/Meetings/Section 2, which states: “The Board of Directors can authorize, without the approval of the general membership, expenses and/or payments it deems necessary up to and including twenty-five dollars ($25.00). If the expenses and/or payments are to exceed twenty-five dollars ($25.00), it must be brought before the membership for a majority vote from a quorum of at least 2/3 of the membership present in the meeting for approval or disapproval.”
Note: A comment was brought up during the November meeting to raise the amount from $25.00.Special Sad Announcement: I was informed that on Thursday night after bowling, Joanne Lemmons from the Del Mar snack bar was killed in a wreck. This comes as a shocking occurrence during this holiday season. Our condolences go out to her family and to all those that were close to her including all of us that spoke to her on a daily basis. Please keep her in your prayers.
