February 2004 VOLUME XXXXIII ISSUE 2
Hello Fellow Buzzards: Well, I don’t really have a lot to talk about this month. I guess once the new year gets going I’ll find something to say. Anyway, I hope everyone had a safe and prosperous new year and are ready to get down to some serious bowling this year. I have included the Tournament information for upcoming tournaments this year. If you have any questions, please contact Dennis Davis. Also, I have included some information on the Special Olympics Bowling. Barbara wanted me to mention for members not to forget to pick up the door prize ticket when you sign up. One more thing, those of you that have not paid your dues, this will be the last newsletter you receive until those are paid. That’s it for now, so on with bowling!!!
Minutes of Meeting:
Arlen was not present last month so Dennis opened the meeting and Barbara presented the Treasurer’s report which passed. Three new applications were voted on and passed. A vote was taken and passed to have the Christmas party held during the regularly scheduled gathering in December. Dennis passed out the trophies for the King & Queen Buzzard winners for 2003. He also informed the club of tournaments to be held this year. More information will follow in the newsletter and you can contact Dennis for any questions you may have. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.
Attendance: We had 59 Buzzards at the gathering in January, 40 of which attended the meeting, 4 that did not bowl and 1 pacer. We have had good turn outs in the last few months and hopefully we can keep it up. Hope to see all of you on FEBRUARY 1ST @ AMF DIAMOND BOWL 267 N. FOREST BLVD. (281-440-9166). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins AT 2 PM. Everyone must be signed up to bowl by 1:30. We are bowling 4 to a lane and if additional lanes are not available, Jackie will fill in additional bowlers. (REMEMBER TO PAY CASH ONLY FOR YOUR BOWLING AND BRACKETS, AS THIS IS HOW JACKIE AND DENNIS PAY OFF THE WINNERS.)
Trivia: If you wanted to purchase a brand-new bowling ball in 1902, what would you have expected to pay?
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY !!!!

Bowling Reminders From Jackie: As was stated in the last few newsletters, those that have not shown their 2003–2004 Sanction card to Jackie by the January meet would not be qualified to win in the pay-offs. Rules that ABC – WIBC require, is that a member is not considered in good standing if dues are not paid nor Sanction cards are not shown to verify they are paid for. Each month she is required to send names of all the winners. Each year she has to keep asking that members show their cards to her. Our Buzzard Club sanction begins in January
each year. If she doesn’t have your co-operation as asked for, she has no choice but to deny your winning in pay-offs and there was only one that she could not pay this time. February will definitely be the last time to show your card to her. Either mail a copy or send a copy by fax to 713-688-6727 if you will not be at the gathering. Dues Deadline: Dues are to be paid to Barbara by February 2. She must have them either mailed and received by her on that date or paid at the gathering.
Bowling Note: We had a pretty good turnout at the Christmas party and I could tell by all the smiling faces that a good time was had by all. 45 bowlers participated in the bowling events and 9 placed in the winnings: (1)Dennis Davis--898 (2) Bruce Koenig--827 (3) Bob King, Sr.--808 (4)Randy Stahl--807 (5)Joe Prey--801 (6)Sheree Poe--786 (7)Ray Wright--777 (8)Chris Smith--774 (9)Leonard Ferguson, Jr.--771
