FEBRUARY 2003 VOLUME XXXXII ISSUE 2
Hello Fellow Buzzards: Well, I hope everyone had a safe and happy new year. I hope the upcoming year is good for everyone. I didn’t have a chance to include the new bowling schedule in last month’s newsletter so I have included it this time. Please make note of it and keep it close for easy reference. Also, if I leave out a birthday or anniversary or if the dates are wrong, let me know so I can get that changed. That’s it for now, so on with bowling!!!
Minutes of Meeting:
Arlen opened the meeting with the Treasurers’ report, which was voted on and passed. One new application was voted on and passed. The tournament in San Antonio has been moved back one week running from August 8-10 (more on this in next month’s newsletter). Arlen appoligized for not picking up the trophies for the winners of the most splits but promised they would be available this month. Also, there was a proposal that the winners of the Ellie Deason Memorial Roll-Off would receive a plaque and $25 instead of just a payoff. Bob King, Jr. mentioned that our Domain name on the web was due to expire soon and suggested that we re-register it so as not to loose it to another party. This was voted on and passed allowing our Domain name to remain on the web for another 5 years. Lastly, Arlen mentioned the passings of Joanne Lemmons from Del Mar and Ruby Mae Boyce. Nothing else was brought up for discussion so the meeting was adjourned.
Attendance: We had 53 Buzzards at the gathering this month, 30 of which attended the meeting, 4 that did not bowl and 1 pacer. Our attendance seems to be increasing a little. Let’s keep it up. Hope to see all of you this month on FEBRUARY 2 @ AMF DIAMOND BOWL 267 N. FOREST BLVD. (281-440-9166). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins AT 2 PM. Everyone must be signed up to bowl by 1:30. (In the event the meeting ends early we may start bowling a little early…so be signed up and ready). We are bowling 4 to a lane and if additional lanes are not available, Jackie will fill in additional bowlers. (REMEMBER TO PAY CASH ONLY FOR YOUR BOWLING AND BRACKETS, AS THIS IS HOW JACKIE AND DENNIS PAY OFF THE WINNERS.)
Trivia: Before limestone, this material was used as a core for many bowling balls. What was it?

Joke of the Month:
The following is a true story:After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Beltway had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.
