AUGUST 2006 VOLUME XXXXV ISSUE 8
Hello Fellow Buzzards: I don't have a whole lot to say this month except I'm beginning to wonder if I should try to find an ark somewhere. With all this rain and the hot days, it's getting a little too humid for me. Oh well, that's Houston for ya. Speaking of hot, the tournament is upon us and that is where we need to turn up the heat with high scores and higher series. As always, let's have fun and enjoy the company the tournament brings. The schedule for the next 3 months of bowling is listed at the bottom of the OFFICERS page. That's it for now, so on with bowling!!! Minutes of Meeting: Arlen opened the meeting and presented the treasurer's report which passed. Arlen also went over changes for the tournament concerning the hotel and times. Katrina Figley from the Arkansas chapter was a guest at the meeting so Arlen told everyone to be on their best behavior, which they were. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.
WATCH OUT METRO,
HERE WE COME!!!!!

Attendance: We had 35 Buzzards at the gathering in July, two that didn't bowl with no pacers. Our next scheduled gathering is on August 13th @ AMF Windfern Lanes 14441 N.W. Frwy. (Hwy 290) Houston (713)466-8012). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins at 2 PM. Bowling Reminder: Full names are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure that the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign at the end of the three games. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for the "THREE – IN – A- ROW" roll-off in January.
Tournament Update: There are 9 teams from Houston going to the tournament with about 6 people going but not bowling. For the dinner/dance, we have 48 going.

JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS
Joke of the Month: A rather well-proportioned secretary started her vacation sunbathing on the roof of her hotel. She wore a bathing suit the first day but, on the second, she decided that no one could see her way up there, and she slipped out of it for an overall tan. She'd hardly begun when she heard someone running up the stairs; she was lying on her stomach, so she just pulled a towel over her rear. "Excuse me, miss," said the flustered little assistant manager of the hotel, out of breath from running up the stairs. "The hotel doesn't mind you sunbathing on the roof but we would very much appreciate you wearing a bathing suit as you did yesterday." "What difference does it make," Joan asked rather calmly. "No one can see me up here, and besides, I'm covered with a towel." "Not exactly," said the embarrassed little man. "You're lying on the dining room skylight."
WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!! About a year ago, some Boeing employees on the field decided to steal a life raft from one of the 747s. They were successful in getting it out of the plane and home. When they took it for a float on the River, they were quite surprised by a Coast Guard helicopter coming towards them. It turned out that the chopper was homing in on the emergency locator that is activated when the raft is inflated. They are no longer employed there.
INTERESTING FACT: The first person killed in an airplane accident was Lt. Thomas E. Selfridge. On September 17, 1908, Selfridge was a passenger with Orville Wright, in a demonstration flight at Fort Myer, Virginia, when the crash occurred. Wright survived the crash. The first pilot of a powered airplane to be killed was Eugène Lefebvre in France, on September 7, 1909.
ON THIS DATE: August, 13th 1946 - British author H.G. Wells, writer of The War of the Worlds, The Time Machine, and The Invisible Man died at age 79. Wells was also a noted historian and politician.
