Hello Fellow Buzzards: It sure was nice seeing most of the members wearing their Buzzard shirts at the last gathering. Hopefully as more join the club, there will be more shirts being seen. In fact, I may just get my white shirt out of “retirement” and start wearing it again. I guess we will have to wait and see. Also bringing back the 50/50 pot should help build up our fund for whatever needs may arise. One last note, for those of you who are having trouble receiving the newsletter by e-mail, I will be moving to a new e-mail system shortly and hopefully this will eliminate some of the problems that are arising. That’s it for now, so on with bowling!!! Minutes of Meeting: Arlen opened the meeting and Barbara presented the treasurer’s report which passed. Six new applications were voted on and all passed. Arlen mentioned to the club that during the tournament if there is a major problem, do not go to the house reps, instead go to one of our officers and the problem will be taken care of. The question was brought up concerning the dinner/dance tickets being available in San Antonio and Arlen said they should be there but he will update the club at the August meeting. Arlen reminded the club that if there are any awards or requalifications during bowling, to write them on the recap sheet so they can be noted. Dennis went over the upcoming tournaments & The Special Olympics. If anyone is interested in any tournaments, contact Dennis for information since there are too many to list in this newsletter. The team winning the free entry into the annual tournament in San Antonio was “Late Arrivals”. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned. |
Attendance: We had 52 Buzzards at the gathering this month (42 of which attended the meeting) and 1 pacer. We have had good turn outs in the last few months and hopefully we can keep it up. Hope to see all of you this month on AUGUST 3rd @ AMF WEST HOUSTON LANES 19936 SAUMS RD. KATY (281-578-9292). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins AT 2 PM. Everyone must be signed up to bowl by 1:30. (In the event the meeting ends early we may start bowling a little early…so be signed up and ready). We are bowling 4 to a lane and if additional lanes are not available, Jackie will fill in additional bowlers. (REMEMBER TO PAY CASH ONLY FOR YOUR BOWLING AND BRACKETS, AS THIS IS HOW JACKIE AND DENNIS PAY OFF THE WINNERS.) Trivia: What is the record for pins under average for one game?

Special Olympics Bowling: The local Special Olympics bowling organization is looking for volunteers to help with the Special Olympics Bowling Winter State Games to be held in Houston in the years 2004-2006. Volunteers must be willing to give up 4 days the last weekend of January in 2004, 2005 & 2006. Competition Directors are needed at the Bowling Centers used for this event. Need to complete training course in Special Olympic General Orientation (4 hrs) and Competition Director’s Training (8 hrs plus 10 hr follow-up). This training should be completed in 2003. Bowling Reminder: When you requalify, be sure to mark the top of the recap with your name and notify John or Jackie Rugg. If you wish to pay $2.00, you will receive a Buzzard Club pin and will be entered in the roll off in January of next year. Your splits will be counted as usual plus you will compete with others that have paid to be in the roll off. Prize money will be given to the top two bowlers with the most splits. The fee paid goes toward prize money.
