BUZZARD CLUB OF AMERICA
HOUSTON CHAPTER NEWSLETTER
APRIL 2006 VOLUME XXXXV ISSUE 4

FOUNDED OCT 1961- ORGANIZED MAY 1963 FOUNDER - THOMAS E. WALTERS, JR
CHIEF BUZZARD ARLEN DEASON

"Let there be no strangers in the BUZZARD CLUB - Only friends that have yet to meet"

Fellow Buzzards: Not a whole lot of stuff happening this month but I do want to remind you that our annual bowling tournament is coming up soon and we need to get teams together so now would be a good time to start thinking. Also, don’t forget about the change in our bowling schedule later this year. We will bowl at West Houston in October instead of the original posted date. The schedule for the next 3 months of bowling is listed at the bottom of the OFFICERS page. That’s it for now, so on with bowling!!!

Minutes of Meeting: Arlen was not present so Dennis opened the meeting. Barbara presented the treasurer’s report which passed. There were no new member applications to vote on. Dennis informed the club that our scheduled bowling at Del Mar will have to be rescheduled due to a tournament being held there the same weekend of our gathering. The date will be passed on to the club next month. He also passed out an award to Bert Warnken for pins over average. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.

Attendance: We had 46 Buzzards at the gathering in March, three that didn’t bowl and 1 pacer. Our next scheduled gathering is on APRIL 2nd @ AMF BUNKER HILL LANES 925 BUNKER HILL (713-461-1207). The meeting begins at 1PM and bowling begins at 2 PM.

Bowling Reminder: Full names are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure that the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign at the end of the three games. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for the “THREE – IN – A- ROW “roll-off in January.

Sad News: Our condolenses go out to the family of Pete Harvey, whose mother passed away last month. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Tournament Update: As you probably know, or for those new members that don’t, our National Tournament will be held in Mesquite this year. Since it is only 5 months away, we need to start thinking about getting teams together. As of this writing, I have not heard anything about applications, but hopefully they will arrive soon.

Bowling Note: During the last gathering, Ray Wright bowled an all spare game. Way to go Ray!!!!!

FUNNY PAGES AND INTERESTING FACTS

Joke of the Month
A little girl and a little boy were at day care one day. The girl approaches the boy and says, "Hey Tommy, want to play house?"
He says, "Sure! What do you want me to do?"
The girl replies, "I want you to communicate your feelings."
"Communicate my feelings?" said a bewildered Tommy. "I have no idea what that means."
The little girl smirks and says, "Perfect. You can be the husband."

WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!!
Tyrone Burgo, 20, was arrested in Boston, Mass., for allegedly selling drugs. Police say it wasn't that he was driving a car with a license plate from another car that led to his arrest, nor that he was driving with a suspended license. Rather, they were led to Burgo because he had advertised his cocaine on the Internet, listing his real phone number. Officers called, set up a meeting, and arrested him after he handed over the drugs. Too bad he didn't try to figure out what "BPD Det Bureau" was on his Caller-ID before he agreed to the deal.

BAD PREDICTIONS:
"Schools will be open 12 months a year [by 1982]. Courses will be speeded up; instead of a four-year high school education, three-year plans may be in effect. Another variation will be staggered semesters-some students studying while others are vacationing."
- Changing Times Magazine, 1957.

WEIRD BUT TRUE
Last summer, down on Lake Isabella, located in the high desert, an hour east of Bakersfield, California, a woman, new to boating was having a problem. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't get her brand new 22-ft Bayliner to perform. It wouldn't get on a plane at all, and it was very sluggish in almost every manoeuvre, no matter how much power she applied. After about an hour of trying to make it go, she putted over to a nearby marina. Maybe they could tell her what was wrong. A thorough topside check revealed everything was in perfect working order. The engine ran fine, the outdrive went up and down, the prop was the correct size and pitch. So, one of the marina guys jumped in the water to check underneath. He came up choking on water, he was laughing so hard. Under the boat, still strapped securely in place ... was the trailer!!
