BUZZARD CLUB OF AMERICA
HOUSTON CHAPTER NEWSLETTER
MARCH 2008 VOLUME 47 ISSUE 3

FOUNDED OCT 1961- ORGANIZED MAY 1963 FOUNDER - THOMAS E. WALTERS, JR
CHIEF BUZZARD ARLEN DEASON

"Let there be no strangers in the BUZZARD CLUB - Only friends that have yet to meet"

Hello Fellow Buzzards: I don’t have a lot to discuss this month so I’ll keep it short. I would like to remind everyone it’s that time again for the annual tournament so start getting your teams together and remember I have the new online newsletter set up to view and instructions on how to access it. That’s it for this month, so on with bowling!!!

Minutes of Meeting: Arlen opened the meeting and presented the treasurer’s report which passed. Nine new member applications were voted on and also passed. Arlen informed the club that he would like to cut down on expenses incurred by the club concerning the mailing of the newsletter and asked that more members receive their newsletter by email. He also wants to do away with the King & Queen trophies and replace those with plaques. Arlen said that since the cost for our Chapter to bowl at the houses will increase next year, these changes will help so the club will not have to take money from the treasury which will prevent us from having a Christmas party in December. The only other option would be to increase the yearly dues or the price members pay to bowl.

The club voted on keeping the 50/50 pot as it is now (50% to the club and 50% to the winner). Arlen informed the members that there will be a meeting later for the type of shirts & Buzzard Head design and it will be finalized & dropped from futher discussion. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.

Attendance: We had 56 Buzzards at the gathering in January, seven that did not bowl and four pacers. Our next scheduled gathering is on March 2nd @ AMF West Houston Lanes, 19936 Saums Rd. Katy, (281) 578-9292. The meeting begins at 1 PM and bowling begins at 2 PM.

Bowling Reminder: There are only two balls per lane during warm-up and not 10 minutes. First and last names of bowlers are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign the sheet at the end of bowling. If you requalify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for “THE ELLIE DEASON MEMORIAL THREE – IN – A- ROW “rolloff in January. Don’t forget, if you show up to bowl in your birthday month, you pay only $5.

Stupid State Laws
In California, it is against the law for women to drive while wearing a bathrobe.

Who Could It Be?
She made her screen debut in a bit part, in a film named after her home state of Hawaii. In New York, she had a role in Fiddler on the Roof and sang in a bathhouse. Today she divides her time between concerts and movies. In a television role she played Mama Rose in Gypsy.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS

JOKE OF THE MONTH:
A married couple was in a terrible accident where the woman's face was severely burned. The doctor told the husband that they couldn't graft any skin from her body because she was too skinny. So the husband offered to donate some of his own skin. However, the only skin on his body that the doctor felt was suitable would have to come from his buttocks. The husband and wife agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from, and requested that the doctor also honor their secret. After all, this was a very delicate matter. After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the woman's new beauty. She looked more beautiful than she ever had before! All her friends and relatives just went on and on about her youthful beauty! One day, she was alone with her husband, and she was overcome with emotion at his sacrifice. She said, "Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. How can I possibly repay you?" "My darling," he replied, "I get all the thanks I need every time I see your mother kiss you on the cheek."

WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!!
Durant, Okla., narcotics detective Lt. Mike Woodruff gave his cell phone number to a young man. The boy then told his mother "that if she ever needed help with anything to give me a call," Woodruff said. "I think she misunderstood. She mistook my number for her son's drug dealer's number." Sure enough, the woman called Woodruff to say she wanted to buy some cocaine. He set up a meeting, and the unnamed woman and her husband showed up -- and were arrested. "I told you we were not getting that for us," the woman complained. "It was for someone else." Thus the police have recommended to prosecutors that the charges be upgraded to possession of drugs with intent to distribute.

ON THIS DATE
On March 2nd 1949, Capt. James Gallagher completed the first non-stop round the world flight. He completed the 23,452-mile (37,742-km) flight in 94 hours 1 minute.

WEIRD BUT TRUE:
Acting on a tip, police in McHenry, Ill., investigated William G. Gersch, 58, since the man was trying to hire a hit man. An undercover cop contacted Gersch, who allegedly offered to hire him to kill his son, William J. Gersch, 35, saying the younger man, who lives on the same block, was responsible for the failure of his marriage and kept him from seeing his grandchildren. "There's been a longtime family feud," a sheriff's investigator said. The senior Gersch was arrested on charges of soliciting murder and faces up to 40 years in prison. Meanwhile, officers realized that the younger Gersch was also under investigation by a different set of detectives. The next day, William J. was also arrested -- on charges possession of pot and cocaine with intent to deliver. "The timing was just really by coincidence," the investigator said.

MORONS:
There is a tech that works in the operations department in the central office of a large bank. Employees in the field call him when they have problems with their computers. One night he got a call from a woman in one of the branch banks who had this question: "I've got smoke coming from the back of my terminal. Do you guys have a fire downtown?"

PREDICTION FROM THE PAST:
The Associated Press' 1950 predictions on life in the year 2000 included a vision of Amazon women. The average woman, it forecasted, would be more than 6 feet tall, with muscles like a truck driver, and would consume food capsules instead of meat and potatoes."
